From Unique Obscurity to Global Phenomenon
Everybody should know about Hasbro’s Transformers franchise, but before it global fame, it was actually inspired by who Japanese exclusive toylines; Microman/ Micro Change & Diaclone by Takara Toys.
In the mid 70’s - mid 80’s, Takara Toys release the Microman/Change toy line which featured small action figures that wielded items like cassettes, cameras ,watches, & guns that transformed into other items to help Microman fight his enemies. The Diaclone line featured larger action figure humans & enemy aliens in mech-suits. Later, the toys would be capable of piloting robots able to camouflage themselves as contemporary vehicles of that time, becoming the Car-Robot series of Diaclone toys. In 1983, a Hasbro representative attended the Tokyo Toy Show & saw the two toylines & later convinced his bosses to license & repackage the toys as what we love & know now as The Transformers in 1984. For 35+ years, Transformers has made its way into all sorts of media, such as movies, video games, clothing, theme parks & more. Transformers has seen dark times, almost discontinuing in the early 90’s, but made a resurgence alongside the Anime Boom of the late 90’s in the West with “Robots in Disguise” & Unicron trilogy series’. In the mid 2000’s, Director Michael Bay created his own vision of the Franchise with a self-titled, live-action debut film which saw several sequel & a reboot in 2018 that reinvigorated the love for Transformers in many fans around the world. In 2022, “Transformers: Rise of the Beast is set to premiere in theaters.
A little while ago my mind was in a dark place. I wanted to get away from social media, but still have to use the internet for work so I started using Reddit. I discovered a subreddit that honestly helped me & to stay sane, I started collecting Transformers again like I did when I was younger. While my head isn’t the clearest, since collecting I’ve been the happiest I’ve been in awhile. Say what you will, but shit ain’t never been said to me. I’ve always & forever been myself without a care in the world. From my socks in High School, to the way I dress, to publicly proclaiming my love for fat bitches, being a guy from the streets thats truly a nerd at heart. I’ll always be me & do what I do no matter what, and you should to. No matter who you, where you come from or what you you’ve been through, be yourself.
