On This Day: “The Dynasty: Roc-La-Familia”

On this day 20 years ago, Jay-Z released “The Dynasty: Roc-La-Familia”, his 5th studio album. The Dynasty was originally set to be a Roc-a-Fella Records compilation featuring the label’s prominent artists such as Jay himself, Beanie Sigel, Memphis Bleek & Freeway, but to increase sales later became a Jay-Z solo album. The only notable, big name features are Snoop Dogg, Scarface & R.Kelly, a decision made to keep the focus on the Roc-a-Fella Family. The album would go on to sell 557, 789 units it’s first week, peaking at #1 on the Billboard Top 200, later becoming 2x Multi-Platinum & is the 20th best selling R&B & Hip-Hop album of the 2000-2010 decade. Due to the albums singles & great sales, then upcoming producers such as the Neptunes, Kanye West & Just Blaze would go on to receive notable success following the release of “The Dyanasty”. It’s hit singles such as “I Just Wanna Love U”, “Change The Game” & “Guilty Until Proving Innocent” would all se success on the Billboard Charts.
