On this day 20 years ago, OutKast released “Stankonia”, their 4th studio album. Stankonia would go on to sell over 530,000 units it’s first week, debuting at Number 2 on the Billboard 200 chart. It’s singles “B.O.B.”, So Fresh, So Clean” & Ms. “Jackson”, with the latter becoming the duo’s first #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100. At the 2002 Grammy Awards, “Stankonia” would go on to win Best Rap Album & Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for “Ms. Jackson”. The follow up album to their 1998 “Aquemini”, the ATLiens would really show their artistic talents with an Dirty South Context along with an array of musical styles such as Rock, Rave, Funk, Gospel & Psychedelia. The deep, introspective album goes through a range of real life topics like Black Culture, politics, sexuality & misogyny, all while giving the fans a melodic, smooth piece art that makes listeners tap into themselves in a way they might not have before. For it’s 20th anniversary, a deluxe version of the album was released on all streaming platforms featuring previously unreleased remixes.
