On This Day: “PlayStation 2 release in North America”

On this day 20 years ago, Sony released the PlayStation 2 in North America. The PS2 has now become the best selling gaming console since it’s memorable release two decades ago, going head-to-head with Sega’s Dreamcast, Microsoft’s Xbox & Nintendo’s Gamecube & reigning victorious by a landslide. The successor to the PS1 has sold over 155 million units worldwide, releasing over 3,800 games with over 1.5 billion units sold. The PS2 also came in a variety of colors such as silver, white, red, blue, yellow & more & in 2004, Sony released a Slimline Edition of the consoles. Upon its release, the PlayStation 2 was blessed with some great exclusives early on such as “Midnight Club” & “Grand Theft Auto” series, the “Tekken” franchise, “Metal Gear Solid”, “Jak & Daxter” & the list goes on & on. Growing up I had both the Original & Slimline PS2 in Black & a Slimline PS2 in Silver, I just wish I still had them today.
