On This Day: “Live.Love.A$AP”

On this day 9 years ago, A$AP Rocky release “Live.Love.A$AP, his debut mixtape. After making the decision to stop hustling on the streets of Harlem, A$AP Rocky decided to pursue a music career as a means to make money & live the lifestyle he wanted. While sticking to his NY roots, Rocky also decided to incorporate other distinct sounds in his music, particularly the Chopped N Screwed sound of Texas in songs such as “Purple Swag” & “Pesos”. The unique sounds of “Purple Swag”would gain Rocky attention on the internet, but his home of New York wasn‘t so receptive of the upcoming star at first. It would not be until Rocky released “Pesos” that he would rightfully receive the respect he deserved. Pesos would go on to receive airplay on New York’s flag ship Hip-Hop radio station, Hot 97, ultimately gaining the respect of his hometown peers. Following this succes, Rocky would find himself in a bidding war with several record labels, eventually signing with RCA-distributed Polo Grounds Music for $3 million along with his A$AP Worldwide crew, got to work on ”Live.Love.A$AP” & the rest is history.
