On this day 18 years ago, “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City” was released for the PlayStation 2. The 2nd GTA game in the 3D Era, Vice City would quickly succeed it’s predecessor, “GTA 3”, selling 17.5 million units worldwide & was the best-selling game of 2002 & is regarded as one of the greatest video games ever made. Since then, Vice City has been adapted into a game on mobile devices & next-gen’ consoles. Vice City would receive high praise due to it’s open world design, music & gameplay. Unlike ”GTA 3”, Vice City players were able to access water & air vehicle such as boats, planes & helicopters as well as motorcycles & mopeds for the first time ever. The music in this game was something to behold as well, with actual known music from legendary musicians such as Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, “A Flock of Seagulls”, Teena Marie, the “Mary Jane Girls” & many more. GTA: Vice City takes place in 1986, the early days of the Crack Era, in fictional “Vice City” based on Miami, Florida, the main protagonist, Tommy Vercetti” has just finished a 15-year prison stint in Liberty City after his mob boss, Sonny Forelli, sends Tommy down South to broker a drug deal that would go wrong. While stuck in Vice City, Tommy is set on a mission of revenge to figure out who ambushed the drug deal & eventually take over Vice City with numerous obstacles in his way. Did you play or own Vice City back in the day ?
