On this day 8 years ago, Chief Keef released “Finally Rich”, his debut studio album. Selling 50,000 units first week, Finally Rich hosted 3 successful singles: “Love Sosa”, “I Don’t Like” & “I Hate Being Sober”; the former already being smash hits in the streets. With a slew of mixtapes already out, this Album would help Chief Keef reach international status as the youngest flexer of all time at just the age of 3Hunna (16). Finally Rich aslo featured a handful of industry heavy hitters such as Kanye West, 50 Cent, Wiz Khalifa & more. With the release of Finally Rich, Chief Keef helped influence teenagers & young adults who wanted to try their hand at music, making it that much more believable that kids from the hood can make it out with hard work & perseverance. Finally Rich & The City of Chicago helped Drill Music subsequently become a mainstay genre in the World of Hip-Hop, reaching New York & even the United Kingdom. Kids across the world started picking up Chicago slang & mannerisms due to the impact Chief Keef would have on the music industry at his age & in such a short time. It can be debated whether Keef’s impact has a positive or negative one, one thing’s for sure; his impact has been felt ever since & hasn’t calmed down yet. When you decided to listen music out of New York these days, make sure to pay homage to Chief Keef for ushering in Drill to the masses.
