On This Day: “Doggystyle”

On this day 27 years ago, Snoop Doggy Dogg released “Doggystyle”, his debut studio album. The bestselling rookie rapper debut to date, “Doggystyle” sold 806,858 units first week & debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart & by 2015, sold 11 million units world wide making the album 4x Certified Platinum. With singles such as “Who Am I ? (What’s My Name)”, “Gin & Juice” & Doggy Dogg World”, Snoop took the world by storm with his unique flow & lyrical realism, giving the fans a taste of what’s it’s like growing up in the L.B.C. . Snoop Doggy Dogg would become a certified star upon the release of “Doggystyle”, despite the controversies that followed. Many critics blame this album, others & several artists from the West Coast for sexism, violence & drug use being “amplified” in the Black Community. Despite the rigamarole from publications that are not of the culture, Snoop Dogg & this album have gained legendary status in the Music World, with Snoop becomes a household name & upholding his status to this day. Salute to our Uncle Snoop .
